First Book Of Yehoshua

וַיִּסְעוּ מֵהַשִּׁטִּים, וַיָּבֹאוּ עַד-הַיַּרְדֵּן; וַיָּלִנוּ שָׁם, טֶרֶם יַעֲבֹרוּ.
וַיְהִי, בִּנְסֹעַ הָעָם מֵאָהֳלֵיהֶם, לַעֲבֹר, אֶת-הַיַּרְדֵּן; וַיַּעַמְדוּ הַמַּיִם הַיֹּרְדִים מִלְמַעְלָה קָמוּ נֵד-אֶחָד, הַרְחֵק מְאֹד באדם (מֵאָדָם) הָעִיר אֲשֶׁר מִצַּד צָרְתָן, וְהַיֹּרְדִים עַל יָם הָעֲרָבָה יָם-הַמֶּלַח, תַּמּוּ נִכְרָתוּ; וְהָעָם עָבְרוּ, נֶגֶד יְרִיחוֹ.
וַיְהִי כִשְׁמֹעַ כָּל-מַלְכֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר בְּעֵבֶר הַיַּרְדֵּן יָמָּה, וְכָל-מַלְכֵי הַכְּנַעֲנִי אֲשֶׁר עַל-הַיָּם, אֵת אֲשֶׁר-הוֹבִישׁ יְהוָה אֶת-מֵי הַיַּרְדֵּן מִפְּנֵי הָעִבְרִים, עַד-עברנו (עָבְרָם); וַיִּמַּס לְבָבָם, וְלֹא-הָיָה בָם עוֹד רוּחַ, מִפְּנֵי, הָעִבְרִים.
וַיְהִי, בִּהְיוֹת יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּירִיחוֹ, וַיִּשָּׂא עֵינָיו וַיַּרְא, וְהִנֵּה-אִישׁ עֹמֵד לְנֶגְדּוֹ וְחַרְבּוֹ שְׁלוּפָה בְּיָדוֹ; וַיֵּלֶךְ יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֵלָיו וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ, הֲלָנוּ אַתָּה אִם-לְצָרֵינוּ. וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא, כִּי אֲנִי שַׂר-צְבָא-יְהוָה--עַתָּה בָאתִי; וַיִּפֹּל יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֶל-פָּנָיו אַרְצָה, וַיִּשְׁתָּחוּ, וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ, מָה אֲדֹנִי מְדַבֵּר אֶל-עַבְדּוֹ. וַיֹּאמֶר הָאֲנָשִׁים הָאֵלֶּה שְׁלֵמִים הֵם אִתְּכֶם, וְיֵשְׁבוּ בָאָרֶץ וְיִסְחֲרוּ אֹתָהּ, וְהָאָרֶץ הִנֵּה רַחֲבַת-יָדַיִם, לִפְנֵיהֶם. וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֶת-בְּנֹתָם נִקַּח-לָנוּ לְנָשִׁים, וְאֶת-בְּנֹתֵינוּ נִתֵּן לָהֶם. אַךְ-בְּזֹאת יֵאֹתוּ לָנוּ הָאֲנָשִׁים, לָשֶׁבֶת אִתָּנוּ--לִהְיוֹת, לְעַם אֶחָד: בְּהִמּוֹל לָהֵם כָּל-זָכָר, כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲנַחְנוּ נִמֹּלִים. וַיַּעַשׂ-לוֹ יְהוֹשֻׁעַ, חַרְבוֹת צֻרִים; וַיָּמָל אֶת-כָּל-הָעָם הַיֹּצֵא מִמִּצְרַיִם, אֶל-גִּבְעַת הָעֲרָלוֹת.
וַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר-תַּמּוּ כָל-הַגּוֹי, לְהִמּוֹל; וַיֵּשְׁבוּ תַחְתָּם בַּמַּחֲנֶה, עַד חֲיוֹתָם. וַיָּבֹא, עֲמָלֵק; וַיִּלָּחֶם עִם-יִשְׂרָאֵל, בִּרְפִידִם. וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל-יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בְּחַר-לָנוּ אֲנָשִׁים, וְצֵא הִלָּחֵם בַּעֲמָלֵק; מָחָר, אָנֹכִי נִצָּב עַל-רֹאשׁ הַגִּבְעָה, וּמַטֵּה הָאֱלֹהִים, בְּיָדִי. וַיַּעַשׂ יְהוֹשֻׁעַ, כַּאֲשֶׁר אָמַר-לוֹ מֹשֶׁה--לְהִלָּחֵם, בַּעֲמָלֵק; וּמֹשֶׁה אַהֲרֹן וְחוּר, עָלוּ רֹאשׁ הַגִּבְעָה. וְהָיָה, כַּאֲשֶׁר יָרִים מֹשֶׁה יָדוֹ--וְגָבַר יִשְׂרָאֵל; וְכַאֲשֶׁר יָנִיחַ יָדוֹ, וְגָבַר עֲמָלֵק. וִידֵי מֹשֶׁה כְּבֵדִים, וַיִּקְחוּ-אֶבֶן וַיָּשִׂימוּ תַחְתָּיו וַיֵּשֶׁב עָלֶיהָ; וְאַהֲרֹן וְחוּר תָּמְכוּ בְיָדָיו, מִזֶּה אֶחָד וּמִזֶּה אֶחָד, וַיְהִי יָדָיו אֱמוּנָה, עַד-בֹּא הַשָּׁמֶשׁ. וַיַּחֲלֹשׁ יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֶת-עֲמָלֵק וְאֶת-עַמּוֹ, לְפִי-חָרֶב.
וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה, כְּתֹב זֹאת זִכָּרוֹן בַּסֵּפֶר, וְשִׂים, בְּאָזְנֵי יְהוֹשֻׁעַ: כִּי-מָחֹה אֶמְחֶה אֶת-זֵכֶר עֲמָלֵק, מִתַּחַת הַשָּׁמָיִם. וַיִּבֶן מֹשֶׁה, מִזְבֵּחַ; וַיִּקְרָא שְׁמוֹ, יְהוָה נִסִּי. וַיֹּאמֶר, כִּי-יָד עַל-כֵּס יָהּ, מִלְחָמָה לַיהוָה, בַּעֲמָלֵק--מִדֹּר, דֹּר.
וַיְצַו מֹשֶׁה אֶת-הָעָם לֵאמֹר: שָׁמֹר, אֶת-כָּל-הַמִּצְוָה, אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי נֹתֵן לָךְ--וַהֲקֵמֹתָ לְךָ אֲבָנִים גְּדֹלוֹת, בְּהַר עֵיבָל, וְשַׂדְתָּ אֹתָם בַּשִּׂיד. וּבָנִיתָ שָּׁם מִזְבֵּחַ, לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ: מִזְבַּח אֲבָנִים, לֹא-תָנִיף עֲלֵיהֶם בַּרְזֶל. אֲבָנִים שְׁלֵמוֹת תִּבְנֶה, אֶת-מִזְבַּח יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ; וְהַעֲלִיתָ עָלָיו עוֹלֹת, לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ. וַעָם-יִשְׂרָאֵל וּזְקֵנָיו וְשֹׁפְטָיו עֹמְדִים אֶל-מוּל הַר-עֵיבָל נֶגֶד הַלְוִיִּם לְבָרֵךְ אֶת-הָעָם יִשְׂרָאֵל--בָּרִאשֹׁנָה, כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה מֹשֶׁה עֶבֶד-יְהוָה

They set out from Shittim and marched to the Jordan. They did not cross immediately, but spent the night there.
When the people set out from their encampment to cross the Jordan, the waters coming down from upstream piled up in a single heap a great way off, at Adam, the town next to Zarethan; and those flowing away downstream to the Sea of the Arabah (the Dead Sea) ran out completely. So the people crossed near Jericho.
When all the kings of Israel on the western side of the Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites near the sea, heard how the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan for the sake of the Hebrews until they crossed over, they lost heart, and no spirit was left in them because of the Hebrews.
It happened, when Joshua was in Jericho, that he looked up and saw a man standing before him, drawn sword in hand. Joshua went up to him, and asked him, "Are you one of us or our enemies?" He replied, "No, I am captain of the Lord's host. Now I have come!" Joshua threw himself face down to the ground and, prostrating himself, said to him, "What does my lord command his servant?" And he answered, "These people are your friends; let them settle in the land and move about in it, for the land is large enough for them." And Joshua said, "We will take their daughters to ourselves as wives and give our daughter to them. But only on this condition will these people dwell among us to be one people: that all their males become circumcised as we are circumcised." So Joshua had flint knives made, and all the people that came out of Egypt were circumcised at Gibeath-haaraloth.
After the circumcising of the whole nation was completed, they remained where they were, in the camp, until they recovered. And Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, "Pick some men for us, and go out and do battle with Amalek. Tomorrow I will station myself on the top of the hill, with the rod of God in my hand." Joshua did as Moses told him and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. Then, whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, but whenever he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses' hands grew heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur, one on each side, supported his hands; thus his hands remained steady until the sun set. And Joshua overwhelmed the people of Amalek with the sword.
Then the Lord said to Moses, "Inscribe this in a document as a reminder and read it aloud to Joshua: I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven!" And Moses built an altar and named it Adonai-nissi. He said, "It means, 'Hand upon the throne of the Lord!' The Lord will be at war with Amalek throughout the ages."
And Moshe commanded the people, saying: Keep the whole commandment which I am giving you and set up big stones, on Mount Ebal, which you covered with plaster. There, too, you shall build an altar to Hashem your God, an altar of stones. Do not wield an iron tool over them; you must build the altar of Hashem your God of unhewn stones. You shall offer on it burnt offerings to Hashem your God. And the people of Israel, its elders and its judges, [were] standing opposite to Mount Ebal, facing the Levites, [who stood] to bless the people of Israel for the first time, just as Moshe, the servant of Hashem, had commanded [them].
